Erin Hederman's Hat-Trick and Beatrice Currie's Brace Leads MC Past Montevallo

CLINTON, Miss.--- The Mississippi College women's soccer team knocked Montevallo 6-2 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11th). Erin Hederman picked up a hat-trick with three goals in the match (MC's first hat-trick of the season). Beatrice Currie also scored two goals, and Margherita Giubilato added the other goal. The Lady Choctaws improve to 4-1 (1-0 GSC) on the year, while Montevallo falls to 5-1 (1-1 GSC).

The first goal of the match came in the 12th minute as Erin Hederman ripped a shot from the edge of the box to beat Montevallo's keeper. MC had drawn a free kick, and took it quickly. Hederman worked her way to edge of the box and put MC ahead 1-0.

Just a few minutes later, Currie doubled MC's on a fastbreak in the 17th minute. Montevallo had a free kick, but Jaelyn Evans cleared the ball away and Currie got on the end of it and raced past the Falcons' defense before scoring to add to MC's lead.

That 2-0 lead would remain for the remainder of the 1st half for the Lady Choctaws. In the 1st half, MC outshot Montevallo 12-0 and held a 7-0 edge in shots on goal.

Currie added to the lead and picked up her brace early in the 2nd half. In the 49th minute, Eduarda Silva played the ball in to Currie, who worked around a couple of defenders before shooting back across her body and into the net to make MC's lead 3-0. The two goals on the afternoon gives Currie three on the season.

Montevallo would get a goal back however as they drew a PK in the 61st minute. Angelina Rivas converted the PK for the Falcons to trim the lead to 3-1.

MC would quickly respond and put the match away however. Erin Hederman added her second goal of the contest in the 69th minute. MaryElla White played the ball in front of goal, and Hederman was there to put it away and extend the lead to 4-1.

Erin Hederman would then quickly add her third goal of the contest in the 70th minute to push the lead to 5-1 and pick up her hat-trick. Currie played a through-ball into Hederman who then pulled from the edge of the box, beating the keeper, to extend the lead to 5-1. The hat-trick puts Hederman at six goals on the season.

Giubilato would then put the match away for good with her first career goal for MC. In the 75th minute, Julia Murdoch played the ball into the box. Olivia Gelpi then tapped the ball to Giubilato who put it home to make the score 6-1.

The Falcons would add a goal late as they once again drew and converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Espy Sanchez scored the goal this time around for Montevallo. The 6-2 scoreline would ultimately be the final score.

For the match, MC outshot Montevallo 24-11 and held a 15-5 edge in shots on goal.
