Choctaws Open Season With Loss At #18 Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. -- Mississippi College opened up the 2022 campaign on Saturday evening falling to #18 Albany State by a final score of 28-14.

Mississippi College started the contest with an opening one-yard rushing touchdown by DeAnte Smith-Moore, which was set up by a 50-yard rush from Marcus Williams. Mississippi College took the early 7-0 lead.

Albany State answered on the next drive, driving the field to punch in the score as the Golden Rams tied the contest up at 7-7.

With 5:25 on the clock in the first quarter, DeAnte Smith-Moore tossed a 29-yard touchdown to Sam Wilder, as MC grabbed the 14-7 lead.

Albany State went on to knot the game up at 14-14 as both teams went to the break tied.

Great defensive stands in the third quarter kept both teams off the scoreboard as the Choctaws and Golden Rams went to the fourth and final quarter tied at 14-14.

With 10:58 to go in the game, the Golden Rams took a 21-14 lead after punching it in to the endzone on the ground.

The ensuing possession, a Choctaws turnover resulted in a Golden Rams pick six, as Albany State extended their lead out to 28-14 with 9:37 left in the fourth quarter.

Mississippi College was shutout for the remainder of the quarter as the Choctaws went on to fall to the nationally ranked Albany State Golden Rams by a final of 28-14.

Mississippi College (0-1) returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 10, at home versus Keiser. Both teams are set for kickoff beginning at 12 p.m. at Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton, Miss.
