CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College outdoor track and field teams opened the 2022 campaign as it hosted the Outdoor Season Opener on Saturday, March 5 at James E. Parkman Track. The Choctaws combined for 12 event wins on the day.

The men's relays along with
Fabio Palmieri and
Al Ferrill headlined the day with multiple event crowns. The 4x400 foursome ended the night with a time of 3:19.81. The 4x100 relay clocked a 41.59.

Palmieri dominated the men's 200 meters with his second event title as he posted a time of 21.10. His first event crown came in the men's 100 meters as he clocked a NCAA provisional time of 10.49. Ferrill added titles in the field as he won the men's hammer with a toss of 45.67 meters and broke the school record with a throw of 15.61 meters in the men's shot put.

Distance runners
Hunter Kurz and
Gabe Poulin added to the event-win total. Kurz took the top spot in the men's 1,500 meters with a PR time of 3:51.58 while Poulin clocked a time of 14:52.69 in the men's 5,000 meters. Gibbs posted a PR with a resounding win the men's 800 meters as he recorded a time of 1:52.18.

Kelechi Christian,
Ereyonna Gore and
Jazmin Hernandez helped the Navy and Gold sweep men's and women's event titles. Christian took the top spot in the women's 200 meters as she clocked a PR time of 24.44. She also added a second-place finish in the women's 100 meters with a time of 11.7.

Gore accomplished the same feat in the women's 800 meters as she posted a time of 2:21.87 – her first-ever 800m win. Hernandez brought home the title in the women's 5K with a time of 18:00.90.

Tytavia Hardy finished runner-up in the women's 200 meters as she crossed the line behind teammate Christian with a time of 24.99.
Leslie Baxter finished second in the women's 800 with a time of 2:22.51.

Dylan Hale finished second in the men's javelin as he posted a throw of 48.82 meters.
Ben Woolhouse joined Hale with a runner-up finish in the field events as he took silver in the men's pole vault with a distance of 4.55 meters.

Christian Balcer finished second in the men's 800 with a time of 1:52.90 and also took second in the men's 1,500 with a time of 3:54.75.
Shemar Patten was the runner-up in the men's 100 as he clocked a 10.52 to finish behind Palmieri.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, March 25 with a pair of road meets. The Choctaws will split the weekend between the Magnolia State and the Tar Heel State. The Choctaws will take part in the two-day Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays in Mississippi State, Miss., and the two-day Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.
