Fagan's Solo HR Walks it Off In Extra Over #3 Valdosta State

CLINTON, Miss. -- In a deadlock score of 1-1 in extra innings on Sunday afternoon, Brooke Fagan stepped up to the plate to face arguably one of the conference's top pitchers, Samantha Richards, in the bottom of the 8th inning in an already thrilling defensive contest.

With two outs already in the inning, Fagan pulled the trigger on a Samantha Richards fast ball, cranking it over the left field wall as Fagan lifted the Lady Choctaws to the 2-1 walk off solo home run, giving #3 Valdosta State their first conference loss in 2022, on a beautiful day in Clinton, Miss.

In the second inning of play Mallory Little got things started off with a single to centerfield that scored Jordan Lafosse as MC took a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning Valdosta State answered as Nicole Pennington singled to left field scoring Valdosta's Clegg, as the Lady Blazers tied the score up at 1-1.

Neither team could separate from the other, completing the first seven innings of the contest before forcing extra innings to decide the winner in game three on Sunday afternoon.

With not a lot of production offensively for either team it was Fagan's solo walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth that heroically gave Mississippi College the 2-1 win in game three as the Lady Choctaws knocked off previously unbeaten Valdosta State in conference play.

Mississippi College finished with five hits as a team as Avery Sanders got the win in the circle going 1.2 innings pitched for Mississippi College. Avery Barnett got things started for Mississippi College going 6.1 innings pitched allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out three Lady Blazers.

both Mississippi College pitchers surrendered just four hits total to the power hitting Valdosta State Lady Blazers. Five different Lady Choctaws had hits with Mallory Little finishing with one run batted in. Jordan Lafosse and Brooke Fagan each scored one run for Mississippi College.

The Lady Choctaws improved to 14-14 overall on the season and 7-10 and Gulf South Conference play with Sunday's win. The Lady Choctaws return to action this Wednesday with a doubleheader at Miles College in Pleasant Grove, Alabama with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
