CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The Mississippi College men and women's tennis teams came up short on the court Sunday as the men fell by a final of 4-3 before the women fell 6-1 to Lee.
Lee bested the Choctaws in all three doubles matches, as the Flames took a 1-0 lead going into singles play.
The Choctaws and Lee split all six singles matches, with
Joe Jarvis winning at No. 2 singles (6-2, 7-6), Hsiang Yi Wang winning at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-7, 6-4) and
Walker Ellis winning at No. 6 singles (7-6, 2-6, 1-0).
On the women's side, the Lady Flames claimed all three matches in doubles, as Lee earned one point ahead of singles.Â
Lee took wins at 1-5 singles while the Lady Choctaws picked up a win at No. 6 with
Fernanda Cota defeating Trammell in two sets 6-2, 6-3.
The Lady Choctaws came up short against the Lady Flames, falling 6-1 in Gulf South Conference play.Â
The women fall to 10-2 overall on the season and 3-2 in GSC play with Sunday's loss, while the men fall to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in GSC play
Both programs return to action next weekend, a part of a three match weekend, as the Choctaws take on West Georgia beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday in Pensacola, Fla.
MC will then take on Valdosta State on Saturday, before capping off the weekend versus West Florida on Sunday, all in Pensacola, Fla.
