CLINTON, Miss. -- The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws fell in a pair of contests Saturday afternoon falling to undefeated GSC conference member Valdosta State by finals of 8-4 in game one and 11-4 in game two.
The Lady Choctaws collected eight total hits in game one before finishing with eight hits in game two on the day.
Valdosta State out powered the Lady Choctaws totaling six home runs in both wins as Valdosta State improved 21-4 overall and 13-0 in Gulf South Conference play.
In game one,
Jenna Ergle put MC up early with a three run moon shot over the left field wall, scoring
Brooke Fagan and
Alexis Laughlin, as took a 3-0 lead over Valdosta State in the third inning.
MC held the Lady Blazers scoreless through six innings, before Valdosta State put together an eight run sixth inning, capitalizing on a pair of MC errors, while also utilizing the long ball to take an 8-3 lead.
MC gained a run back in the bottom of the sixth, but it was not enough as VSU went on to win game one by a final of 8-4.
In game two,
Brooke Fagan put MC up 1-0 in the first inning, hitting a solo shot in the second at bat of the game for Mississippi College. Valdosta State answered with a solo shot of their own in the second inning, tying the game up at 1-1. MC regained the lead 2-1, scoring in the second inning on an
Alexis Laughlin single to left field, scoring
Jordan LaFosse.
Valdosta played played the long ball twice in the third inning, with two, two-run home runs, as the Lady Blazers took the lead before extending it to 5-2 heading into the bottom of the third.
Mallory Little trimmed the Blazers lead to 5-3 with an RBI single to right field that scored
McCall Lee.
Rayne Minor scored on a
Brooke Fagan single in the fourth inning, yet it was not enough as Valdosta State powered their way past the Choctaws, using five home runs on in the game to push across 11 runs, as VSU wen to win by a final of 11-4.
Mississippi College fell to 13-14 overall and 6-10 in GSC play on the season with the losses on Saturday. Both teams return to the field tomorrow afternoon for game three, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
