LAFAYETTE, La. --- Members of the Mississippi College men and women's outdoor track and field team traveled to the Pelican State to take part in the University of Louisiana-hosted Louisiana Classics. The two-day event took place at the Ragin Cajuns Track and Soccer Facility.
 
Kelechi Christian opened the Classics resetting the school record in the 200 meters on Friday, March 18. She clocked a time of 24.60 as she finished fourth in field. Ezra McCaw finished eighth in the event with a time of 24.71. The duo also competed in the women's 100 meters as McCaw finished fourth with a time of 12.05. Christian finished 18th with a time of 12.28.
 
Ereyonna Gore closed out the 200 meters with a personal record time of 26.03. She finished 16th in the women's 400 meters with a time of 59.77.
 
Leslie Baxter turned in an eighth-place finish in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:23.38. The Grand Bay, Ala., product teamed up with Christian, McCaw and Gore to finish fourth in the women's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:56.93.
 
Tytavia Hardy set the school record in the women's 100-meter hurdles as she posted a NCAA provisional time of 14.07. The mark demolished the previous record of 14.46 and the NCAA provo of 14.21. She finished sixth in the event. The Pensacola, Fla., native finished seventh in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.58 meters.
 
Al Ferrill posted a PR in the men's hammer throw as he recorded a toss of 49.17 meters to finish eighth in the event. He added a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 15.25 meters. Gabe Hodson finished sixth in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:54.85, which marked a PR for the Raceland, La, native.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, March 25 with a pair of road meets. The Choctaws will split the weekend between the Magnolia State and the Tar Heel State. The Choctaws will take part in the two-day Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays in Mississippi State, Miss., and the two-day Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.
