CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision to fourth-ranked Southern Arkansas University on Tuesday, March 1. The setback moves the Choctaws to 5-10 on the season while the Muleriders won their 12th straight contest to improve to 12-1.

A pitcher's duel through the first three innings saw the two squads knotted at a run each. SAU took the early lead, but the Navy and Gold tied the contest in the bottom of the third as
Ken Scott reached on a fielder's choice that saw
Jackson Breedlove cross the dish.

The Muleriders took the advantage in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs to grab a 3-1 lead and saw the margin expand with five runs during the final four frames to capture the midweek contest.

The Choctaws logged five hits in the contest with only one going for extra bases as Scott garnered a two-out double in the eighth inning. SAU sent four pitchers to the hill in the victory as Reed Osborn (1-0) logged his first win this season in three innings of relief work as he allowed two hits with a strikeout and a walk.

MC sent a total of eight hurlers to the bump as
Bryce Lewis (1-1) received the loss. Lewis surrendered two runs on two hits along with a walk and hit batter.

SAU logged a combined nine hits in the outing with three of them coming from Tucker Burton as he also drove in three runs and scored once. Brandon Nicoll joined him with multiple hits as he collected a pair.

Mississippi College returns to action this weekend as it faces its second nationally ranked opponent of the week as it travels to face the top team in Division II, the University of Tampa in a three-game series. The Spartans mark the sixth nationally ranked opponent this season on the Choctaws' ledger.
