Choctaws Drop Contest to #18 Henderson State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team fell in non-conference action on Tuesday, Feb. 15 as the Choctaws (2-6) were outlasted by 18th-ranked Henderson State University, 12-8 at Dickins-Scoper Stadium, Frierson Field.

After being deadlocked 4-all through five innings, the Reddies (8-0) outscored the Navy and Gold 8-4 the remainder of the way.

Lane Willis and Caleb Reese led the offensive charge for the Navy and Gold with pair of hits each. Reese collected his second home run of the season in the ninth – one of three for the squad in contest. Ken Scott followed with a solo home run to provide the final two runs of the contest.

CJ Berry launched his first homer of the season, a two-run hit in the fourth inning to tie the contest at three-all. The two runs tied the Bossier City, La., native for tops on the team in multi-RBI with Scott, who garnered his second RBI with his home run in the ninth, joined him.

The Reddies broke the tie in the sixth with a pair of runs and then tacked on three in the seventh on a three-run home run from Dillon Thomas. MC responded with two in the bottom half of the inning, but a two HSU runs in the eighth and a solo home run in the top of the ninth off the bat of Pate Fullerton capped the scoring for the visitors from the Natural State. Pate's long ball helped the Reddies match MC's total for the day.

Austin Cross (1-0) picked up the win on the bump as he pitched four innings in relief and allowed three runs on four hits.

David Dunn (0-2) took the loss on the mound as he surrendered two runs on three hits in an inning out of the bullpen.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Feb. 18 as opens Gulf South Conference action in Livingston, Ala. First pitch against the University of West Alabama is set for 5 p.m. The series concludes on Saturday, Feb. 16 with a doubleheader marked to start at 1 p.m.
