Softball Knocks Off #13 Lincoln Memorial and South Indiana On Final Day of Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE Ala. — The Mississippi College softball team took down South Indiana and #13 Lincoln Memorial Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Charger Chillout by final scores of 14-4 and 14-10.

In game one Mississippi College struck first with three runs in the first inning with the help of an AnneMarie Peavy RBI triple and doubles by McCall Lee and Mallory Little. Southern Indiana got two runs back in the bottom half of the first inning, with a two-run homerun to cut the Choctaw lead to 3-2.

Mississippi College got two runs back in the second inning after Peavy notched her second RBI of the contest, scoring a Alexis Laughlin. McCall Lee reached on a fielders choice, scoring Rayne Minor to put MC back on top 5-2.

MC stretched it's lead to 8-2 in the fourth and fifth innings with the help of a Lee double, scoring Jenna Ergle and Peavy as MC took a six-run lead after five innings.

The Choctaws put up a six spot in the top half of the seventh-inning on multiple hits as MC would go on to win by 10 runs in game one by final of 14-4.

Mississippi College collected 14 hits as a team and were led by AnneMarie Peavy ad McCall Lee with three hits a piece. Lee led MC with five runs batted in, two doubles, as well as two runs scored. Peavy had three runs batted in and a team-high four runs scored. Alexis Laughlin and Mallory Little had two hits with Laughlin scoring two runs in the contest.

Avery Barnett picked up the win, going five innings in the circle while giving up seven hits, four earned runs, and striking out three batters.

In game two versus #13 Lincoln Memorial, it was Lincoln Memorial that jumped out quickly to a 3-0 lead after three innings. The Choctaws got on the board in the fourth inning after Jordan LaFosse tripled to right center field, scoring Carlon Brabham, cutting the lead to 3-1. Trailing 4-1 heading into the sixth inning, Laughlin put MC back within two runs with an single to centerfield that scored Lee, as MC pulled to a 4-2 deficit.

Lincoln Memorial increased their lead to five runs in the sixth inning going up 7-2. With Mississippi College down to their final three outs, the Choctaws got things rolling offensively in the seventh-inning with a three run homer run by AnneMarie Peavy, putting MC back to a 7-4 deficit. Carlon Brabham singled to centerfield scoring Bailee Avants, as MC cut the lead 7-5 before a Jordan LaFosse double scored Jaycee Dill, making the score 7-6.

Alexis Laughlin took a pitch to centerfield scoring the tying run as MC put a five run spot on the board in the seventh-inning to force extras at 7-7.

In the top of the eighth MC took a two run lead, 9-7, with the help of a McCall Lee single and a ground out by Jenna Ergle that scored Rayne Minor.

Lincoln Memorial answered the call in the bottom half of the eighth, scoring two runs to force a ninth-inning with a tied score of 9-9

MC once again put a run on the board taking a one run lead, 10-9, in the top of the ninth. Lincoln Memorial tied the score up in the bottom half of the ninth at 10-10 with a single to left field, once again forcing an extra inning to decide the outcome.

Mississippi College opened things up in the 10th inning as Dill singled up the middle, scoring Peavy, as MC regained a one run lead.

An RBI single by Mallory Little to right centerfield put MC up three runs, 13-10, before LaFosse singled to left field, scoring Jaycee Dill to extend the lead to 14-10.

Avery Sanders closed out the 10th inning forcing back-to-back ground outs and a fly out to left field as MC knocked off the #13 ranked team in the country.

In game two, Mississippi College pounded out 16 hits as a team and were led by LaFosse and Lee with three hits a piece. LaFosse led MC with four runs batted in, including a triple and a double on the afternoon. Lee also finished with one double, one run batted in, and two runs scored.

Alexis Laughlin and Mallory Little had multi hit ball games with two hits a piece, as both finished with two runs batted in. Brooke Fagan and AnneMarie Peavy had two runs scored with Peavy finishing with two RBIs, as well as a home run.

Avery Sanders went the complete game, in the circle, throwing 10 innings while giving up 12 hits, four earned runs, and striking out five batters.

Mississippi College improved to 5-4 overall on the season, including two wins over top 20 programs in the country. MC returns to action on Friday at West Alabama, beginning GSC play, with game one of a three game series set to begin at 5 p.m. in Livingston Alabama.
