Softball Splits Double Header At West Alabama to Open GSC Play

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The Mississippi College Choctaws softball program split Saturday's doubleheader at West Alabama, falling in game one by a final of 4-3 before winning game two by a score of 2-0.

In game one, MC got on the board first with a McCall Lee single to left field that scored Brooke Fagan to give MC the 1-0 lead.

UWA scores runs in the second and sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead going into the final inning of game one. The Choctaws made it interesting in the seventh inning, with home runs by Annemarie Peavy and Brooke Fagan, yet the comeback fell one run shy as MC took the loss in game one by a final of 4-3.

In game two, both teams remained knotted at a 0-0 score before a two run home run by Jenna Ergle gave the Choctaws a 2-0 lead.

Avery Sanders went on the close out the Tigers, holding them scoreless in the final to frames, earning the win after going the complete game and only giving up one hit in the contest. 

Sanders picked up the complete game win, her third on the season, going seven innings while only giving up one hit, no runs, and striking out two batters. 

In game one, MC collected seven hits as a team, and were led by Fagan and Ergle with two hits a piece. Ergle collected a double in game one, with Fagan and Peavy picked up home runs in the contest. Ergle knocked her third home run of the season in the 2-0 win over the Tigers in game two. 

MC improved to 6-5 overall on the season and 1-1 in GSC play to open the GSC slate. The Choctaws  return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the deciding matchup of the series at the UWA Softball Complex in Livingston, Ala.
