Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in five sets to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Thursday, Nov. 3. It is the first time MC (22-6, 8-4 Gulf South Conference) has fallen in five sets this season. It is the third consecutive time to the two programs have gone five sets and the fifth time in series history.
 
The setback snapped an eight-match, home win streak for the Navy and Gold and marked the first, five-set loss at home since Nov. 9, 2019 to the University of West Florida.
 
Caroline Chastang and Kendall Platt led the offensive charge for the Choctaw as they compiled double figure kills. Chastang posted a team-best 15 kills while Platt added 11. Lexie Laurendine paced the squad with 27 assists while Ali Wiggins dished out 20.
 
The trio of Missy Beber, Sloane FitzHenry and Platt led the defensive effort the squad. FitzHenry totaled five blocks as she defended the front line. Beber and Platt compiled double-digit digs with 16 and 13 respectively.
 
After falling behind following the first set, the Choctaw rallied to take sets two and three, 28-26 and 25-16. The second set alone saw nine ties and six lead changes. MC posted a clip of .246 during the two sets as it held the Chargers to -.034 in the third. Platt and Chastang led the offensive attack with six and five kills respectively.
 
UAH knotted the contest at two sets each with a 25-21 victory. The Blue and White belted a .379 clip during the set as it totaled 14 kills and committed just three errors. MC closed the gap in the set to 21-20, but visitors from the Rocket City rattled off four of the next five points to send the contest to the deciding set.
 
MC looked to stop the momentum and pick up its third, five-set win of the season as it took a 5-2 lead early. The home team extended its margin to 8-5, but a 3-0 run knotted the contest at 8-all. The two teams saw five ties over the next several points – the last coming at 12-all – as UAH closed out the set on a 3-1 run.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Nov. 4 as it hosts the University of Montevallo. MC will honor its two seniors prior to the match. First serve is at 6 p.m.
