CLEVELAND, Miss.--- The Mississippi College men's soccer team defeated Delta State 4-1 on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9th) in Cleveland. MC had four different goal-scorers in a balanced effort. The scorers were
Nico Milot,
Felix Ewald,
Josh Davies, and
William Janous. The Choctaws improve to 7-2-1 (4-2-1 GSC) on the year, while Delta State falls to 2-4-4 (1-3-2 GSC).
Delta State took an early lead in the 18th minute on a goal from James Lynch that put DSU up 1-0.
MC's deficit was short-lived however as
Nico Milot quickly equalized on an assist from
Jakob Gaarde in the 21st minute. The goal is Milot's first of the season.
Felix Ewald would then give MC the lead, for good, on a penalty kick in the 25th minute. The two-time GSC Freshman of the Week converted from the spot to put MC ahead 2-1. Ewald now has four goals on the season, which is 2nd most on the team
.
The 2-1 MC lead would remain until halftime.
In the 1st half, MC outshot Delta State 6-4. The Choctaws also held a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal at the break.
The Choctaws would quickly work to put the match away early on in the 2nd half.
Josh Davies doubled the lead to 3-1 in the 51st minute. He put home an assist from Soane Folituu to extend the lead. The goal is the first of the season for Davies.
William Janous then put the match away for good with a goal in the 63rd minute. Janous received a through ball from
Sergio Garrido, and slotted it home in the opposite side of the net to push the lead to 4-1. The goal is the first of Janous' career.
MC would cruise from there, finishing out the 4-1 victory.
Overall for the match, the Choctaws outshot Delta State 15-4. MC also held an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. Milot led the way for MC in shots and shots on goal, with five and three respectively.
Next up, MC will return home for their final homestand of the regular season. The Choctaws will host Christian Brothers on Friday (Oct. 14th) and Union on Sunday (Oct. 16th). Senior day festivities will happen during the Union match.
