Johns Picks Up 200th Win as Choctaws Advance to GSC Semis

LIVINGSTON, Ala.--- The 6-seed Mississippi College men's soccer team knocked off 3-seed West Alabama 3-0 in the Gulf South Conference quarterfinals as MC head coach Kevin Johns picked up his 200th career win. Felix Ewald, Jakob Gaarde, Guilherme Santos picked up the goals for MC. The Choctaws will now head to the GSC semifinals against 7-seed Christian Brothers. MC improves to 11-3-2 (6-3-2 GSC) on the season, while West Alabama finishes up 6-5-5 (6-1-4 GSC).

Felix Ewald put MC ahead in the first half as he put home a rebound. Guilherme Santos took a shot from the edge of the box that was saved, but the rebound fell to Ewald who was on a perfectly timed run to put the ball home to put the Choctaws ahead in the 15th minute. The goal is the 7th of the year for Ewald, which is 2nd on the team.

That score would remain for the rest of the 1st half.

The Choctaws dominated the 2nd half, putting the match away.

Jakob Gaarde would double MC's with a golazo in the 56th minute. He had a free kick and was able to curl it in just inside of the post to beat the keeper and make it a 2-0 game. The goal is the first of Gaarde's MC career.

Guilherme Santos then put the game away with a goal in the 75th minute. Gaarde played the ball in front of an on-running Santos who slot it home to extend the lead to 3-0. Santos improves to 4 goals on the season.

The Choctaws would see out the match from there.
