BATON ROUGE, La. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball debuted its 2022-23 squad in exhibition action at No. 16 Louisiana State University on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Pete Maravich Center. MC posted a strong showing early, but fell 88-35.

Kyiah Julian led the Choctaws with 10 points in the contest on 4-of-13 shooting from the floor. The junior guard posted a strong outing defensively, finishing second on the team with four total rebounds, while adding two steals in 25 minutes.Â
Choctaw forward, Amelia Bell, tallied a second best six points on the night on 3-of-5 shooting. Bell added one rebound and the team's lone block in 15 total minutes of action.Â
Danielle Tennant pulled down a team-best five rebounds for the Choctaws in 15 minutes on the floor, including three offensive rebounds and two defensive rebounds. Â
The Choctaws hung with the nationally ranked Tigers through the first 20 minutes of action, including outscoring the Purple and Gold 18-14 in the second quarter. The Navy and Gold entered the locker room at the intermission trailing 38-25.

However, the Tigers outscored MC 24-4 in the third to take a 33-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

It's the third time to the two programs have faced off in exhibition action since the Choctaws returned to Division II and the fifth, tune-up contest. The outing is the first of two exhibitions for the Navy and Gold this season as the team makes the trip down US Highway-49 on November 30 to face in-state foe University of Southern Mississippi.

Mississippi College opens the regular season on Nov. 11 as it travels to Cleveland, Miss., for the opening game of the Gulf South Conference-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover against LeMoyne-Owen College. Tip-off at Walter Sillers Coliseum is at 5:30 p.m.
