LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team picked up its 12th straight-set win of the season as it completed the season sweep of the University of West Alabama on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Pruitt Hall.
Â
The win clinched a GSC Tournament berth for the Choctaw as they make their second appearance in as many seasons. Last season, MC advanced to the conference semifinals for the first time in program history.
Â
In a complete scoring effort, seven Choctaw recorded a kill in the match.
Kendall Platt led the way with nine kills while
Caroline Chastang added eight.
Lexie Laurendine dished out 23 assists to lead the team. Defensively, Platt and
Julia Sumrall led the effort at the net with five blocks each. Platt also added nine digs.
Â
After a battle through the first set, the Choctaw delivered a 25-9 victory in the second set behind a .529 attacking clip. The Navy and Gold grew its lead to 12-8 in the second set and then rode an 11-0 run guided by Laurendine's serving abilities to expand the margin to 23-8. A hiccup in the run allowed the Tigers their ninth point, but Paulette slammed the door with a kill to end the second game.
Â
Much like the second set, MC used a similar large run in the middle of the third set to secure the match. The Choctaw held a 9-7 advantage and used a 10-2 scoring spurt en route to a 25-14, match-clinching victory in the set.
Â
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Oct. 28 as it travels to Pensacola, Fla. First serve at nationally ranked West Florida is at 6 p.m.
