Lady Choctaws Drop Regular Season Finale to West Florida 3-0

PENSACOLA, Fla.--- The #20 ranked Mississippi College women's soccer team dropped their season finale to the #12 nationally ranked West Florida Argonauts 3-0 on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 23rd). With the win: UWF clinched the GSC regular season title, while MC finishes 2nd. The Lady Choctaws fall to 13-3-1 (10-2-1 GSC) on the year, while West Florida improves to 13-2-1 (12-1 GSC).

The loss snaps MC's four match win streak, and also their ten match results streak.

West Florida struck first in the 1st half as Blair Cowan scored directly on a free kick in the 32nd minute.

MC would push for an equalizer before the half, but couldn't find a goal. The 1-0 scoreline would remain until the break.

In the 1st half, UWF outshot MC 7-5. Each team had two shots on goal.

The Argos would double their lead in the 66th minute, as Julia Comin got on the end of a free kick to head it home to make it a 2-0 UWF lead.

The Lady Choctaws had the run of play in the final 20+ minutes as they had chances, but just couldn't the back of the net in their attempts to cut into the lead.

West Florida would eventually find another goal in the 84th minute to put the match away. Blair Cowan picked up her second goal of the afternoon. The match would finish up by that 3-0 score.

Overall for the match, West Florida outshot MC 15-9. The Argos also won the shots on goal battle 6-3. Erin Hederman led the way for MC with three goals and two shots on goal. Margherita Giubilato picked up the Lady Choctaws' other shot on goal.

Next up, MC will head into the GSC tournament as the #2 seed. The Lady Choctaws will host the 7-seed in the 1st round next Sunday (Oct. 30th). The time and opponent are still to be determined.
