MOBILE, Ala.--- The Mississippi College women's soccer team cruised past Spring Hill 5-0 on Friday afternoon (Oct. 21st).
Margherita Giubilato,
Beatrice Currie,
Erin Hederman,
Kaylee Foster, and
Ashton Storey scored the goals for MC in a balanced effort. The Lady Choctaws improve to 13-2-1 (10-1-1 GSC) on the year, while Spring Hill falls to 1-13-1 (1-10-1 GSC).
Avery Hederman also picked up a bit of history in the match as she broke the program record for single-season assists. The mark was previously held by Melanie Benner with 13 in 2013. Hederman's assist gives her 14 on the season.
Margherita Giubilato got the match started quickly as she put home an assist from
Julia Murdoch in the 4th minute to put MC ahead early. The goal is Giubilato's 5th of the season.
Beatrice Currie then doubled the lead in the 17th minute as Murdoch once again picked up the assist. Currie's goal pushed the lead to 2-0, and also marked her 14th goal of the season (which leads the team).
Erin Hederman then added to the lead just several minutes later. She scored her 12th goal of the season in the 22nd minute to push MC's lead to 3-0.
Kaylee Foster then rounded out the 1st half as she scored in the 36th minute. Foster's goal came on an assist from
Stella French to push the lead to 4-0. The goal is Foster's 4th of the season.
In the 1st half, MC outshot Spring Hill 14-1. The Lady Choctaws also held an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Ashton Storey then helped put the match away as she scored the lone goal of the 2nd half to push the lead to 5-0. Storey's goal came on a set piece in the 59th minute as she headed home a free kick from
Avery Hederman. The goal is Storey's 1st of the season.
The 5-0 scoreline would remain for the rest of the match as MC cruised from there.
Overall for the match MC outshot Spring Hill 29-3, and held a commanding 13-2 edge in shots on goal.
Next up, the Lady Choctaws will take on West Florida in Pensacola on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 23rd), with the GSC regular season title on the line.
