MOBILE, Ala.--- The Mississippi College men's soccer team defeated Spring Hill on Friday afternoon (Oct. 21st) in Mobile.
Guilherme Santos and
Noah Wagner scored the goals for MC to lead the team to victory. The Choctaws improve to 10-2-2 (6-2-2 GSC) on the year, while Spring Hill falls to 4-7-3 (2-5-3 GSC).
Guilherme Santos struck first to put MC ahead in the 8th minute. He put home an assist from
Soane Folituu to put the Choctaws ahead 1-0. The goal is the 3rd of the season for Santos (all coming in his last 5 appearances).
That 1-0 scoreline would remain for the rest of the 1st half.
In the opening 45 minutes, Spring Hill outshot MC 4-3. The Badgers also held a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Early on in the 2nd half, neither team was able to find the next crucial goal.
Then however
Noah Wagner doubled MC's lead in the 72nd minute.
Nico Milot played the ball in to Wagner, who was able to score to push MC's lead to 2-0. Wagner now has 10 goals on the season, which leads the team and the GSC. He is the first men's soccer player in the conference to reach double-digit goals on the season.
Spring Hill was able to get a goal back late as Albert Vila Truco found the back of the net in the 80th minute to cut MC's lead to 2-1.
MC was able to see the match out from there in order to pick up the 2-1 victory.
Overall for the match, MC outshot the Badgers 14-11. The two squads were even with 6 shots on goal apiece.
Santos led the way for MC in shots with four. Folituu also added three.
Next up, the Choctaws will head to Pensacola to take on West Florida on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 23rd) in the regular season finale. MC will be fighting for seeding in the GSC tournament in the match.
