CLINTON, Miss.--- The Mississippi College men's soccer team knocked off Union 2-0 on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 16th) in their senior day match.
Noah Wagner and
Josh Davies scored the goals for MC. The Choctaws improve to 8-2-2 (5-2-2 GSC) on the year, while Union falls to 4-10-1 (1-8-1 GSC).
MC honored six seniors prior to the start of the match:
Zach Diallo,
Jorge Fernandez,
Soane Folituu, Luke Horst,
Grant Hudson, and
Noah Wagner.
Noah Wagner gave MC the early lead in the 4th minute.
Guilherme Santos crossed the ball in to Wagner who headed it home for the early 1-0 lead. The goal is Wagner's 8th of the season, which leads the team and puts him into a tie for the most in the Gulf South Conference.
The score would remain 1-0 for the remainder of the 1st half.
In the opening 45 minutes, MC outshot the Bulldogs 6-5. Each team had two shots on goal in the opening frame.
Josh Davies then helped put the match away in the 51st minute on a corner.
Sergio Garrido played the ball in on a corner, and then Davies got on the end of it to slot it home to double the lead to 2-0. The goal is Davies' 2nd of the season.
Neither team would score in the final half-hour-plus as MC held on to the 2-0 victory.
Overall for the match, MC outshot Union 15-10. The squads were even on shots on goal with four apiece.
Cole Turner kept a clean sheet in net (his third of the season) in net, while making four saves.
Next up, the Choctaws will dip back into non-conference action to travel to Louisiana Christian on Monday, Oct. 17th. Then MC will wrap up the regular season next weekend against Spring Hill on Friday (Oct. 21st) and West Florida (Oct. 22nd).
