Choctaws Set School Record with 598 Rushing Yards in Win Over Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. —- The Mississippi College Choctaws extended their win streak to three games on Saturday, defeating Valdosta State by a final score of 49-40 behind a new school record 598 rushing yards.

The Choctaws had three 100 yard rushers with  Marcus Williams pacing the way with 6 rushes and 188 rushing yards.

Williams had two touchdown rushes on the night including a 66-yard touchdown before adding a 78 yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to give MC the 42-24 lead at the time. He also had a 41-yard touchdown reception from John Henry White in the second quarter to give MC a  28-17 lead.

White was 1-of-2 through the air for 41 yards and one touchdown to Williams. The freshman quarterback, who has won the GSC Freshman of the Week in back-to-back weeks also had a team high 21 rushes for 151 rushing yards. White averaged 7.2 yards per carry on the ground.

Cole Fagan had a solid outing on the ground with 16 rushes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Fagan had touchdown runs of three and five yards during the contest, averaging 7.1 yards per rush.

Running back Chris Colebank also got in on the touchdown action, carrying the ball twice for 79 yards, including a 73 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give MC the 49-24 lead. 

After setting a new school record a week ago in a win over Shorter with 67 rushing attempts, the Choctaws once put their names into the record book on Saturday, breaking the previous school record for rushing yards in a game (567 rushing yards vs. Mexico Polytechnico on Nov. 22, 1975) with 598 rushing yards on 61 rushing attempts.

MC has rushed 60 times or more in back to back weeks with more than 520 rushing yards in consecutive weeks.

Mississippi College runs their win streak to three games after the 49-40 win over the Blazers on Saturday.

The Choctaws improved to 4-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in GSC play. They will look to continue their win streak next Saturday,Oct. 22, on the road at West Florida. The two will kickoff beginning at 7 p.m. in Pensacola.
