Choctaws Defeated on the Road at #9 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla.  --- Mississippi College fell to #9 West Florida on Saturday by a final score of 45-17 in Gulf South Conference play.

West Florida's C.J. Wilson put the Argos on the board early with a 15-yard rushing touchdown in first quarter after an eight play 65 yard drive to take a 7-0 lead.

The Choctaws held the Argos to one touchdown throughout the quarter before answering with a 22-yard field by Ben Pledger with 10:56 on the clock in the second quarter.

UWF extended their lead on the next possession with a 19-yard touchdown toss that gave the Argos the 14-3 advantage with 6:40 left until the break.

Mississippi College utilized a 41-yard pass from John Henry White to Jacob Stephens to push the ball into Argos territory, before adding a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Marcus Williams as MC made it a 14-10 score.

UWF's Larry Rembert found Peewee Jarret up the middle for a 25 yard touchdown pass as the Argos went into the break leading MC,  21-10.

West Florida added a 41 yard field goal and a one yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, taking a 31-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final minute of action, the Choctaws found the endzone one last time, on a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Ian Thies to make it a 45-17 ballgame. UWF went on to finish out the final minute, defeating MC by a final of 45-17.

White finished the contest 3-of-5 for 102 yards through the air, including a 41 yard pass to Jacob Stephens and a 45 yard pass to Me'Kyle Franklin. White also had 63 yards on the ground on 15 total carries for an average of 4.2 yards a carry. Stephens finished with two catches for a team best 76 receiving yards.

Williams tallied 68 yards on the ground on eight carries, for 8.5 yards per rush and one touchdown. Defensively, Grant Watts led the Choctaws with five tackles, including four solo tackles and one assisted tackle.

As a team, the Choctaws has 348 yards offensively on 54 plays, including 211 rushing yards on 48 carries. MC falls to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in GSC play.

Mississippi College returns to action next Saturday, October 29, for homecoming versus Delta State.  The two teams are set to kickoff beginning at 6 p.m. at Robinson Hale Stadium in Clinton, Miss.
