Lady Choctaws Dominate Christian Brothers 6-1

CLINTON, Miss.--- The Mississippi College women's soccer team dominated Christian Brothers 6-1 on Friday afternoon (Oct. 14th). MC picked up braces from Beatrice Currie and Kaylee Foster, plus Olivia Gelpi and MaryElla White added goals as well. The Lady Choctaws improve to 11-2-1 (8-1-1 GSC) on the year, while CBU falls to 8-5-2 (5-4-2 GSC).

Beatrice Currie got the scoring started early in the 4th minute. She received the ball in the box from Erin Hederman, and was able to then beat the CBU keeper 1v1 to put MC ahead early 1-0.

The Lady Bucs would equalize in the 13th minute however. Cheyenne Smith headed home a corner to even the contest up at 1-1.

Currie and the Lady Choctaws would quickly answer back however. Avery Hederman won the ball in the midfield, and she tapped it forward to Erin Hederman who played the ball forward to Currie. Currie worked around a defender before once again putting the ball in the net to put MC back in front 2-1. The two goals on the afternoon gives Currie 13 on the season, which leads the team.

Olivia Gelpi would then double MC's lead to 3-1 in the 33rd minute. Eduarda Silva played the ball wide to Currie, who put a cross in across the net. Gelpi then headed the cross home to extend the lead. The goal is Gelpi's third of the season.

Kaylee Foster then added another goal to MC's tally before the half. Currie once again picked up the assist as she played a throughball through the defense and onto the feet of the on-running Foster who put it home to push the lead to 4-1 in the 35th minute. The 4-1 scoreline would remain until the half.

Makayla Hernandez made a big save in the final minutes of the half as she saved a penalty kick. Hernandez denied Smith from the spot to keep MC's lead at three.

In the 1st half, MC outshot CBU 12-5. The Lady Choctaws also held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Foster would then add another goal in the 56th minute off a corner. Avery Hederman took the corner, and almost put it in herself, but Foster guided it home to score her second of the afternoon and to extend the lead to 5-1. The two goal outing puts Foster at four on the season.

MaryElla White would then put the finishing touches on the match, as she converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to push the lead to the ultimately final 6-1. White drew the foul as well, then stepped up to put it home herself. The goal is her third of the season.

Overall for the match, MC led in shots 27-8. MC also led in shots on goal 14-5.

Next up, The Lady Choctaws will host Union on Sunday (Oct. 16th) for Senior Day. Senior Day festivities will start approximately 15 minutes before the start of the contest.
