Choctaws Knock Off Shorter 4-0 in Commanding Victory

CLINTON, Miss. --The Mississippi College men's soccer team knocked off Shorter University 4-0 in commanding fashion on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26). The Choctaws improved to 3-4 (2-2 GSC) while Shorter fell to 2-5 (0-4 GSC).

Aurele Chemin got the scoring started in the 23rd minute as he scored on an assist from Noah Wagner on a ball that originally came off a corner. The goal marked Chemin's 1st of the season.

Wagner then got in on the scoring after a long ball from goalkeeper Alejandro Chavarria got past the Shorter backline and then Wagner beat the Shorter keeper to make it a 2-0 lead for MC in the 38th minute. That score would remain until halftime.

Filippo Bellu added a goal just 56 seconds into the 2nd half off an assist from Zach Diallo. The goal was Bellu's 3rd of the year.

Wagner then put a stamp on the match as he scored his 2nd goal of the match and 6th of the season to lock up the brace in the 86th minute to make it the ultimately final 4-0 scoreline.

Overall, MC outshot Shorter 21-5 and also led in shots on goal 7-1. MC also had the edge in corner's by that same 7-1 margin. Wagner led the way for MC with 4 shots. He also had 2 shots on goal. Gonzalo Carrasco added 3 shots with 2 on goal as he just missed several goals from outside the box. Pedro Cortes also added 3 shots. 

The Choctaws will be on the road next weekend as they travel to take on Alabama-Huntsville on Friday evening (Oct. 1) and West Alabama on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 3).
