CLINTON, Miss. --The Mississippi College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Lee University in heartbreaking fashion on Friday afternoon (Sept. 24). The Choctaws fell to 2-4 (1-2 GSC) while Lee improved to 5-1 (3-0 GSC).
It was an even first half with neither team scoring, and Lee leading the shot total 3-2.
The 2nd half was much of the same as neither team could gain control for much of the 2nd half. The Choctaws had several great opportunities including a blistering shot by Filippo Bellu in the 83rd minute that forced a diving save in the upper left corner by Lee goalkeeper Sam Keener.
Lee got the game winner in the 89th minute as Collin Lewis scored off a volley with just 66 seconds left in the match. He was assisted by Eemeli Makela.
Overall, Lee had the advantage in shots at 7-6 and in shots on goal 5-4.
Noah Wagner led the way for MC in shots with 2 (both were on goal to also lead the team).
The Choctaws will be back in action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26) when they host Shorter University at 3:30 at Longabaugh Field.
