LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team opened Gulf South Conference play 1-0 as it down the University of West Alabama in four sets on Tuesday, Sept. 21 in Pruitt Hall. The Choctaws improve to 3-3 on the season while UWA falls to 0-7.

Kendall Platt led the offensive charge with 17 kills.
Sloane FitzHenry,
Lydia Paulette and
Lexi Richards each added eight kills.
Lexie Laurendine directed the attack with 38 assists. Defensively for the squad, Laurendine had four total blocks while
Stevie Nesbit supplied three.
Missy Beber paced the team with 14 digs while Platt tacked on 10.

Mississippi College rattled off four of the final five points in the fourth set led by Paulette, FitzHenry and Platt to claim a 25-22 win and capture the match. West Alabama opened the set with a 6-1 run, but witnessed MC force a deadlock at 9-all. The two squads exchanged leads midway through the contest until a MC 8-1 run headlined by a 6-0 spurt pushed them in front. Three straight kills from Platt assisted in the charge.

West Alabama battled back to tie the contest at 20-all and set up the drama down the stretch.

The Choctaws used a 14-9 run midway through the first set en route to taking a 25-18 lead in the match. West Alabama rallied to tie the contest at 1-1 with a 25-15 victory in the second. MC trailed 12-6 in the third and risked falling behind 2-1 in the match, but the Navy and Gold rallied to claim a 25-19 victory and swap the momentum.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Sept. 24 as it hosts the University of Montevallo in the home opener. First serve of the GSC contest is set for 6 p.m.
