Choctaws Slip In Season Opener to Albany State

CLINTON, Miss -- Mississippi College took to the field for the first time at home in 656 days, Thursday evening, falling short to the Albany State Golden Rams by a final of 24-0 to begin the season.  

Tytus Heard led the Choctaws with 16 carries for 88 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Jacob Stephens tallied two catches for 36 yards on four targets, including a 27 yard reception in the second half. 

Defensively, Josh Miller led the way defensively with nine tackles, five unassisted tackles and four solo tackles. Jonathan Jones collected eight tackles including seven unassisted tackles and one assisted tackle. 

The Golden Rams had 279 yards of total offense, including 189 yards on the ground and 90 yards through the air. ASU was led by Dionte Bonneau who went 6-of-13 passing for 74 yards and one touchdown. 

Marcuis Fulks and Kamran Ward went for 66 yards and 91 yards rushing each, respectively. Mississippi College tallied 179 yards on the night with 141 yards rushing in the opening loss. Albany State starts off 1-0 on the year while MC goes to 0-1.

MC takes a week off in week two before returning to Robinson-Hale Stadium on Sept. 18 versus Fort Lauderdale. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CST in Clinton, Miss.
