CLINTON, Miss. - The Mississippi College Choctaws got into the win column on Saturday, dominating all facets of the game in a 63-0 win over Fort Lauderdale.
The Choctaws defense got things rolling early when
Zadok Esters took an interception back 51 yards to the Fort Lauderdale 37 yard line with 9:46 left in the first quarter.
Four plays later, MC punched the ball in with a 17-yard run from
Cole Fagan to put MC up 7-0 in the contest. Three straight possessions for the Eagles resulted in Mississippi college turnovers, with
Josh Miller and
Nick Grady getting into the interception column.
Both interceptions led to Choctaw touchdowns.
Braxton Hall forced a fumble with
Ridge Futral recovering the ball for MC, as Mississippi College quickly jumped out to a 28-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Mississippi College dominated the first quarter of play, leading 35-0 after 15 minutes. Two more touchdowns in the second quarter put MC up 49-0 heading into the break.
The Choctaws never looked back, adding 14-0 second half points, on their way to a 63-0 rout over Fort Lauderdale on a beautiful day in Clinton, Miss.
The offense notched nine total touchdowns, with quarterback
Tytus Heard finishing 2-for-2 for 67 yard through the air and one touchdown, a connection with
Stephen Smith for a 41-yard touchdown reception.
Mississippi College added eight touchdowns on the ground, with
Grant Collins leading the way with 105 yards and one touchdown. The MC offense totaled 418 total yards of offense, including 351 rushings yards and 67 passing yards.
Mississippi College improves to 1-1 on the season overall and will return back to Robinson-Hale Stadium on Saturday with kickoff set for 7 p.m. versus West Alabama.
