Avelar and Pascoe Lead MC to 4-1 Win Over Montevallo

The Mississippi College women's soccer team knocked off Montevallo 4-1 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 19) to cap off the opening weekend of GSC play at 2-0. MC improved to 4-1 (2-0 GSC) on the season while Montevallo fell to 2-3 (0-2 GSC).

It was a rain drenched match, but the Lady Choctaws were able to pull away in the 2nd half to knock off Montevallo on the road.

Dani Avelar got the scoring started in the 20th minute as she scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Erin Hederman to put MC up 1-0. That score would remain until halftime.

Avelar then doubled MC's lead in the 68th as she locked up the brace with her 2nd goal of the match, on an assist from Erin Hederman, to give MC some crucial space and give the Lady Choctaws the momentum.

Holly Pascoe then extended MC's lead further just minutes later as she scored in the 70th minute. Erin Hederman registered her 3rd assist of the match on the goal.

Pascoe locked up her brace with her 2nd goal of the match to extend the Lady Choctaw's lead to 4-0 not long aftr in the 77th minute. Emma Young and Julia Murdoch got the assists.

Montevallo got a goal back in the 89th minute as Chloe Spradlin scored, but it was too little, too late.

MC outshot Montevallo 16-11 in the match and also had a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. Erin Hederman and Beatrice Currie led MC with 4 shots apiece. Both also led the team in shots on goal with 3. Sara Maleski registered 5 saves in goal.

The win marks MC's 20th straight GSC regular season win dating back to the end of the 2018 season.
