The Mississippi College women's soccer team opened up GSC play with a 4-1 victory over the Auburn University at Montgomery WarHawks on Friday evening (Sept. 17). The Lady Choctaws improved to 3-1 (1-0 GSC) while AUM fell to 2-2 (0-1 GSC).
Beatrice Currie got the scoring started in the 14th minute as she scored her 3rd goal of the season to put MC up 1-0.
Emily McNair then doubled the Lady Choctaw lead in the 28th minute as she scored her first goal of the season. Currie and
Erin Hederman were credited with assists.
MC then got their 3rd goal of the 1st half off of an AUM own goal in the 39th minute. It came off of a corner from
Avery Hederman and deflected off a Warhawk player and into the net.
Erin Hederman then scored MC's 4th and final goal early in the 2nd half as she scored off of assists from
Ashton Storey and
Olivia Gelpi (who was making her MC debut). The goal came in the 49th minute and marks the 3rd straight game that
Erin Hederman has scored.
AUM would get their lone goal of the match when Ariel Jones scored in the 74th minute off an assist from Anila Mantello.
The win marks the Lady Choctaws' 19th straight GSC regular season win dating back to the end of the 2018 season.
MC controlled the match statically as well as on the scoreboard. MC outshot AUM 31-5 and also had an 18-2 edge in shots on goal. The Lady Choctaws also held a commanding edge in corners at 11-0.
Beatrice Currie and
Erin Hederman led the way for MC with 6 shots apiece. Currie led in shots on goal with 5.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 19) as they stay on the road to take on Montevallo at 1:00 pm CDT.
