The Mississippi College men's soccer team dropped their Gulf South Conference opener to the Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks on Friday night (Sept. 17) by a score of 1-0. The Choctaws fell to 1-3 (0-1 GSC) while AUM improved to 3-1 (1-0 GSC).
The match was scoreless at the half following an even and hard fought 45 minutes. In that first 45 minutes, both teams had 4 shots, but neither was able to find the back of the net.
The deciding goal for AUM came in the 65th minute as Franck Kouentchi scored on a cross from Renan Diniz.
The Choctaws made a late push after falling behind which included a dangerous free kick from
Gonzalo Carrasco, but were unable to find the equalizer as they dropped the hard fought match.
Overall, AUM outshot MC 9-7, but the Choctaws had the advantage in shots on goal 5-4. For MC, Carrasco led the way in shots with 3. He also led the team in shots on goal with 2.

MC will be back in action on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 19) as they stay on the road to face Montevallo. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm. Montevallo comes into the match at 4-0-1 (1-0 GSC).
