Lady Choctaws Advance to GSC Title Game with 8-0 Win Over West Georgia

OXFORD, Ala. --- The Mississippi College softball team advanced to Saturday's Gulf South Conference championship game with an 8-0 win over West Georgia on Friday night at Choccolocco Park.

The Lady Choctaws (21-19) will face #4 Auburn Montgomery (38-5) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with the winner earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II South Regional in Valdosta, Ga.
 

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 8, WEST GEORGIA 0 (5 INNINGS)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings with MC having the best chance, loading the bases in the 2nd before coming away scoreless.
  - The Lady Choctaws broke through in the 3rd when Jordan LaFosse singled home Rayne Minor and McCall Lee.
  - Annemarie Peavy pushed the lead to 4-0 on an RBI double that scored Brooke Fagan and LaFosse.
  - Avery Barnett continued to shut down the UWG offense, only allowing one baserunner over the final three innings.
  - The Lady Choctaws broke the game open in the 5th with an two-run doubles from Shelby Carlson that drove in Fagan and LaFosse.
  - The last two runs of the game scored on a UWG error that brought home Morgan Bradford and Danielle Williams.

KEY STATS
  - Barnett (11-5) tossed a complete-game shutout, giving up just two hits with three stirkeouts and one walk.
  - LaFosse had her third two-hit game of the tournament, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs.
  - Carlson also drove in two runs, while Fagan scored twice.

NEXT UP
  - The Lady Choctaws will play in the Gulf South Conference championship game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Choccolocco Park.
