Lady Choctaws Down West Georgia, Fall to #8 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team split a pair of matches at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Choctaws (4-5, 2-3 GSC) opened the day with a 7-0 win over West Georgia (3-7, 1-6 GSC). They then fell to homestanding #8 West Florida (11-4, 7-1 GSC) by a score of 6-1.
 

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 7, WEST GEORGIA 0

DOUBLES ACTION
  - The Lady Choctaws were dominant in picking up the match's opening point.
  - Ely Alas and Fernanda Cota won the #1 match by a score of 6-1.
  - Anna Didkovska and Alisa Morozova clinched the 1-0 lead with a 6-1 win at #2.

SINGLES ACTION
  - The Lady Choctaws then rolled to six straight-set victories to grab their second 7-0 sweep of the week (Blue Mountain).
  - Maria Rodriguez opened with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #6, while Fernanda Cota won the #5 match by a score of 6-0, 6-4.
  - The match-clinching point was scored by Paulina Cota with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at #1.
 

#8 WEST FLORIDA 6, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 1

DOUBLES ACTION
  - The Lady Choctaws dropped the doubles point as the nationally-ranked Argos won #1 and #2 matches only dropping three games.
  - Paulina Cota and Rodriguez were able to win the #3 doubles match in a tie-break.

SINGLES ACTION
  - Rodriguez gave the Lady Choctaws their point in the match at #6 with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) win over Mayumi Saguchi.
  - Fernanda Cota also went to three sets at #5 but came up short against Raissa Wagner (6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9)).
  - The Argos cruised the rest of the way with a couple wins by retirement.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Lady Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action on Monday (April 12) when they play Valdosta State at 10:00 am in Pensacola.
