Lady Choctaws Split Doubleheader at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College softball team split a doubleheader with Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon at St. Benedict at Auburndale.

The Lady Choctaws (13-12, 11-8 GSC) had their 9-game winning streak snapped with a 6-5 loss in the opener, but they came back to get a 7-4 win over the Lady Bucs (7-20, 7-12 GSC).
 

GAME ONE: CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 6, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - MC got on the board quickly in the first with a pair of runs as each of the first three batters reached base and grabbed a 2-0 lead.
  - The Lady Bucs took advantage of two walks and three hit-by-pitches in the first to make it a 2-2 score through a frame.
  - McCall Lee gave the Lady Choctaws a 5-2 lead in the second with a three-run home run, her team-leading fourth of the season.
  - CBU bounced back again in the 2nd with a two-run double from Bree Brady to make the score 5-4.
  - The scored remained 5-4 as the pitchers settled in a sent the game to the 6th with the one-run difference.
  - In the bottom of the 6th, the Lady Bucs drew four straight walks to tie the game and the game-winning run scored on a sacrifice fly.

KEY STATS
  - Lee led the MC offense with a pair of hits and four RBI, including the three-run home run.
  - Rayne Minor joined Lee with a team-high two runs scored.
  - Avery Sanders (8-9) took the loss, giving up just three hits, but walking nine with six earned runs over 5.1 innings.
  - Josie Bond led the CBU offense with two hits, while Brady drove in a team-high three runs.
  - Macy Cumming (5-5) went all 7.0 innings to get the win, giving up five hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
 

GAME TWO: MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 7, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Lady Choctaws struck first in the second contest with three runs in the 2nd inning on RBI from Annemarie Peavy and Paige Hulin.
  - CBU scored twice in their half of the second, including a solo home run from Brady, to cut the score to 3-2.
  - Shelby Carlson had one of her four hits in the 3rd inning to score Brooke Fagan and push the lead to 4-2.
  - After the Lady Bucs scored an unearned run in the 3rd, MC responded with a pair of runs in the 5th, including an RBI single from Peavy.
  - CBU cut the score to 6-4 with an RBI groundout from Brady in the 5th.
  - Carlson had her final hit of the contest and drove in Fagan in the 7th with two outs to give the game its final score.
  - Avery Barnett retired the side in order in the 7th to clinch the doubleheader split.

KEY STATS
  - The Lady Choctaws put up 11 hits in the second game, with 10 of them coming from Fagan, Carlson and Peavy.
  - Carlson went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
  - Fagan and Peavy each had three hits with Fagan scoring three times and Peavy driving in a pair.
  - Barnett (5-2) went the distance for MC, giving up four hits and two earned runs with just one walk.
  - Bond led the way with two hits and two runs scored, while Brady drove in two runs.
  - Mackenzie Puckett (2-4) took the loss for CBU, allowing five hits and three earned runs over 2.1 innings.

  - The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
