Lady Choctaws Fall Twice at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College softball team continued to struggle offensively in a doubleheader sweep at West Florida on Saturday afternoon at the UWF Softball Complex.

The Lady Choctaws (3-10, 2-7 GSC) dropped the opener by a score of 6-2, while the Argos (12-5, 7-2 GSC) took the second game by a count of 8-1.
 

GAME ONE: WEST FLORIDA 6, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Argos wasted no time scoring in the first inning as Teala Howard singled, stole second and came home to score on a double from Kara Wilson to make the score 1-0.
  - They broke the game open in the third inning as Ally Merrill and Angela Agurkis his a pair of two-out, two-run home runs to make the score 5-0.
  - The Lady Choctaws cut into the lead in the fourth as Jordan LaFosse hit her second home run of the season after a Morgan Bradford double to make the score 5-2.
  - MC could only muster one hit the rest of the game, however, as UWF tacked on a run in the sixth to give the game its final score.

KEY STATS
  - LaFosse and Bradford each had extra-base hits in the loss, while Paige Hulin was credited with a stolen base.
  - Avery Sanders (2-8) took the loss for MC, giving up four hits and one earned run over 2.1 innings.
  - Mackenzie Collins saw her first action in the circle this season and pitched the final 3.0 innings, giving up no hits and just one earned run.
  - Merrill led the Argos with two hits, while Wilson and Mallory Vining had doubles in the win.
  - Kelsey Sweatt (5-1) tossed the complete game, giving up three hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts and four walks.
 

GAME TWO: WEST FLORIDA 8, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Argos jumped out quickly again in the second game, scoring three runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Courtney McLellan.
  - They would then score one run in each of the next five innings to tally their eight runs in the contest.
  - The Lady Choctaws scored their run in the fifth inning as Gracie Trahan doubled and scored on a double-steal with Rayne Minor.

KEY STATS
  - The Lady Choctaws had five different players tally hits in the series finale, including doubles from Trahan and Shelby Carlson.
  - Sanders (2-9) took the loss after allowing two hits and four earned runs with three strikeouts and five walks over 1.1 innings.
  - Collins was again impressive, giving up just one hits and one earned run over 1.1 innings.
  - McLellan led the UWF offense with two hits and three RBI, including a solo home run in the third.
  - Montana Young (5-1) pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Lady Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action at home next weekend when they host #14 UAH at the MC Softball Complex.
