Lady Choctaws Stumble at West Florida, 4-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College softball team struggled to get the bats going in a 4-0 loss to West Florida on Friday afternoon at the UWF Softball Complex.

The Lady Choctaws (3-9, 2-5 GSC) held the Argonauts (10-5, 5-2 GSC) to just five hits but could only muster three base-knocks themselves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The game was a scoreless pitching duel between Avery Sanders and Grace Gilbert.
  - The Argos were able to break through in the 4th as they took advantage of five MC walks to drive in a pair of runs and take a 2-0 lead.
  - They would add a solo home run in the 5th inning from Kara Wilson and an RBI single from Teala Howard in the 6th gave the game its final score.
  - McCall Lee doubled to open the 7th inning, but the Lady Choctaws were unable to push a run across.

KEY STATS
  - Lee had two of MC's three hits with Paige Hulin coming up with the third.
  - Sanders (2-7) took the loss, despite allowing just one hits with four strikeouts over 3.2 innings pitched.
  - Avery Barnett tossed the final 2.1 innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs.
  - Gilbert (2-3) gave up just three hits with six strikeouts over the complete game effort.
  - Five different Argos tallied hits, while Wilson scored a pair of runs.

NEXT UP
  - The teams will wrap up the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
