HOOVER, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team closed out the 2021 spring campaign with a four-set loss to the University of Montevallo in the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Semifinal.
The 7-2 mark gives the Choctaws their first winning season since 1994.
Lexie Laurendine led the way with a triple-double. Laurendine tied for tops on the team with 12 kills, dished out 25 assists and added 14 digs. The triple-double marked her third of the season.
Levi Lennard added a double-double with 19 assists – second-most on the team – and added 12 digs.
Lexi Richards tied Laurendine with 12 kills while
Erin Davis provided 13 digs and
Stevie Nesbit chimed in three blocks.
The Choctaws conclude with a 7-2 record and were 3-1 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage in the opening set, but MC fought back to knot the set at 21-all and forced two deadlocks down the stretch. However, the Falcons closed out the set with the final two points as they capitalized on two MC miscues.
- The back-and-forth contest throughout the opening points of the second, MC tied the contest at 11-all and then went on a 7-0 run to take charge in the set. The Purple and Gold clipped the deficit to within a point, but an UM error followed by a Laurendine kill gave the Choctaws a 25-22 win in the second and tied the match at a set apiece.
- A second close set in the third, UM began to pull away with a midway through and didn't let the Navy and Gold back in the set as it finished with a 25-20 victory.
- MC held a 16-14 advantage in the fourth, but the Falcons went on an 11-3 run to close out the set and match.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Montevallo improved to 5-1 in the series and won its fourth straight.
- The triple-double is the 12th of Laurendine's career.
- The double-double was the second of the career for Lennard.
