Softball Wins 8th Straight, Sweeps Series at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College softball team picked up their 8th straight victory with a pair of wins over Union on Sunday afternoon at Fesmire Softball Field.

The Lady Choctaws (11-11, 10-7 GSC) won the opener, which was a postponed game from Saturday, 8-2 before taking down the Bulldogs (4-21, 3-14 GSC) in the second contest, 7-2.

GAME ONE: MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 8, UNION (TN) 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - McCall Lee got things started on Saturday night with a solo home run, which was her first of two in the rain-delayed contest.
  - The Bulldogs would answer back, however, with a run of their own in the 1st to make the score 1-1 after an inning.
  - The Lady Choctaws took advantage of three walks and a hit-by-pitch in the 2nd inning, scoring four runs to give them a 5-1 advantage.
  - After the Bulldogs were held scoreless in the 2nd, lightning and rain forced the remainder of the game to be pushed to Sunday.
  - When the game resumed, Lee kept the offensive attack going with a two-run single in the 5th to make the score 7-1.
  - Union scored a run in the 6th, but Lee got it right back with a solo home run to lead off the 7th and give the game its final score.

KEY STATS
  - Lee went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI, including the two solo home runs.
  - Paige Hulin drew four walks and scored twice for the MC offense.
  - Avery Sanders (7-8) won her fifth straight start, giving up seven hits with six strikeouts over the complete game effort.
  - Alyssa Ward led the Union offense with a pair of hits and a run scored.
  - Gabby Morris (3-11) took the loss in the circle, allowing four hits and seven runs with eight walks.

GAME TWO: MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 7, UNION (TN) 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Lady Choctaws wasted no time getting on the board in the second game as Morgan Bradford hit a three-run home run to take a 3-0 lead.
  - The Bulldogs responded in the 2nd as Morris homered with a runner on to cut the lead to 3-2.
  - Jordan LaFosse got one of the runs back in the 3rd with an RBI double to score Bradford.
  - Annemarie Peavy got in on the fun with an RBI single in the 5th to score Brook Fagan.
  - The final blow came in the 7th when LaFosse homered with Bradford on base to make the score 7-2.
