CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College senior
Avery Sanders threw a no-hitter in a doubleheader sweep of Shorter on Saturday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (8-11, 7-7 GSC) won their 5th straight game after winning the opener 6-2 before Sanders no-hit the Hawks (4-15, 0-11 GSC) in the 10-0 win in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 6, SHORTER 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
 - It was a slow start for the Lady Choctaws as the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of unearned runs in the 3rd inning.
 - MC answered back in the 4th with a sacrifice fly from
Brooke Fagan and a squeeze bunt from
Morgan Bradford to tie the game at 2-2.
 - The eventual game-winning run came across in the 5th on a
Rayne Minor single that scored
Annemarie Peavy.

McCall Lee put the game away with a two-run double to score
Gracie Trahan and
Paige Hulin and make the score 5-2.
 - The final run of the game scored as Fagan grounded out to score Minor in the 5th.
KEY STATS
 - Minor had a season-high three hits and scored twice, while Lee had two hits and two RBI.
 - Fagan also drove in a pair of runs, while Hulin crossed home plate twice.
 -
Avery Barnett (3-2) was stellar in the circle, allowing just two unearned runs with three stirkeouts over 7.0 innings.
 - Hannah Morales had a team-high two hits for the Hawks.
 - Madison Pettigrew (2-5) took the loss for Shorter, giving up four hits and five earned runs with seven walks over 4.1 innings.

GAME TWO: MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 10, SHORTER 0 (5 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED
 - The offense scored in every inning of the run-rule victory, starting with an RBI single from
Jordan LaFosse to score Fagan in the 1st.
 - It was all the offense Sanders would need as she pitched out of a couple of jams to toss the no-hitter.
 - MC broke the game open in the 2nd with three runs, as Minor, Lee and Fagan all drove in tallies to make the score 4-0.
 - The Lady Choctaws put the game away with five runs in the 3rd, led by a two-run single from Lee that scored Trahan and Hulin.
 - Peavy and Minor also drove in runs in the frame.
 - The final run scored in the 4th as
Hallie Creel singled home
Ashley Elsensohn.
KEY STATS
 - Sanders (5-8) pitched around four walks and struck out six batters over 5.0 innings.
 - Minor led the way again with two hits, also driving in two runs.
 - Lee drove in a team-high three runs and pushed her team-high season total to 16.
 - Peavy and Trahan each scored twice to lead the Lady Choctaws.
 - Julie Sanderlin (1-5) took the loss in the circle, giving up three hits and four earned runs with four walks.
GAME NOTES
 - Sanders' no-hitter was the first for a Lady Choctaw since
Hannah Creel no-hit Miles on March 19, 2019.
 - The Lady Choctaws have won 10 straight against Shorter, including seven shutouts.

 - The teams will finish the three-game series on Sunday with a single game at 2:00 p.m.
