CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's and women's soccer teams will open the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Tournaments on Sunday (March 21).
Both squads go into the tournament as the #1 seed from Group A after going undefeated in league play in the shortened regular season.

The Choctaws (4-0, 4-0 GSC) will play host to Delta State at 1:00 p.m. at Clinton High School. MC defeated the Statesmen in Cleveland on February 28th by a score of 2-0 as Pedro Cortes and Antoine Recizac scored in the shutout victory.
MC has allowed just one goal all season, a penalty kick score in the 3-1 win over Union (March 3). Alejandro Chavarria has produced three shutouts this season, giving him 12 over his two-year career. The defense has allowed just 20 shots in their four matches.
Offensively, Recizac leads the way with three goals, including a pair in the win over Union. Zach Diallo has scored twice this season, while Cortes leads the team with two assists on the year.
The Statesmen went 0-5 in the regular season but advanced to the quarterfinals with a penalty kick victory over Shorter on Thursday. Hsu-Yang Chang scored the regulation goal for DSU, while Mattis Klopper made five saves to help the team advance in the tournament.
The winner of Sunday's matchup will move on to the semifinals, which will be played on March 27 or 28 against the winner of the Christian Brothers-Alabama Huntsville game.

The Lady Choctaws (5-0, 5-0 GSC) will face UAH at 1:00 p.m. at Meridian Community College. MC defeated the Chargers 2-1 back on February 21 as Avery and Erin Hederman each scored a goal.
Erin Hederman is the team's leading scorer this season with three goals, putting a pair in the back of the net in a 2-0 win over Union (Feb. 28). Avery Hederman has a team-high three assists, while seven different players have scored goals this season.
Defensively, MC has allowed just 26 shots on the shortened season, giving up just three goals with no more than just one in a single game. Ebba Elweroth has posted a 0.71 goals against average and produced a pair of shutouts.
The Chargers advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-3 win over West Georgia on Thursday as all eight goals were scored in the second half. Laura Hasani and Annie Burd each scored twice in the victory.
Caroline Buchanan leads the team with three goals scored this season, while Hasani and Gabby Westenberger have a team-high two assists. Adriana Wright has made 30 saves and pitched a shutout in seven matches this year.

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
