CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team opened the 2021 season with a 4-3 loss to Division I Alcorn State on Wednesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (0-1) jumped out to a quick lead with wins in each of the three doubles matches, led by a 6-0 sweep from
Paulina Cota and
Kennedy Rodriguez at #3.
MC would then push the lead out to 3-0 with singles wins at #1 with
Ely Alas (6-0, 6-2) and #2 with
Paulina Cota (6-1, 6-3).
The Braves roared back, however, with wins at each of the final four singles positions, including three-of-four going to three sets.
The tightest match came at #3 where Mikaela Konstantinova and
Anna Didkovska split a pair of tie-break sets before the Alcorn Stater won the final set 6-4.
The Lady Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Cleveland to face rival Delta State.
