BRANDON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team opened the 2021 Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series with a 1-0 win over Christian Brothers on Tuesday night at Bulldog Stadium on the campus of Brandon High School.
The four-match regular season features a pair of home games (CBU and West Alabama) and two road games (Delta State and Union) before a conference tournament to wrap up the season.
The Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Cleveland to face rival Delta State at 2:30 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 - The first half was scoreless over the first 35 minutes as both teams held possession but few scoring chances were created.
 - In the 37th minute, the Choctaws broke through for the lone goal as
Zach Diallo took a through-ball from
Pedro Navarro following an assist form
Pedro Cortes.
 - The match went into the halftime break with the Choctaws leading 1-0 and outshooting the Bucs, 5-2.
 - CBU had the better chances in the second half, seeing four shots with two on goal, but the MC defense stood tall for the shutout win.
KEY STATS
 - Diallo and
Guilherme Santos had the only two shots on goal for the Choctaws, while
Gonzalo Carrasco had a team-high three total shots.
 -
Alejandro Chavarria made two saves and collected his 10th career shutout in the victory.
 - Habib Binate had a team-high two shots for the Bucs, including an shot on goal that was saved by defender
Aurele Chemin in the 72nd minute.
 - Wayne Davis made a save for the Bucs but took the loss in net.
NOTES
 - The Choctaws are now 5-4 all-time against the Bucs, including winning four of the last five meetings.
 - It was the first match for the Choctaws in 466 days, dating back to Nov. 15, 2019 in a GSC semifinal loss to Lee.
NEXT UP
 - The Choctaws play their next two games on the road, traveling to Delta State on Sunday (Feb. 28) before going to Union on March 3rd.
