VICKSBURG, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team opened Gulf South Conference play with a 6-2 win over rival Delta State on Saturday afternoon at Sports Force Parks.
The Lady Choctaws (2-4, 1-0 GSC) and the Lady Statesmen (5-4, 0-1 GSC) moved their series to Vicksburg following the winter weather that barreled through the area earlier in the week.
The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. at Sports Force Parks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 - The Lady Choctaws took advantage of five DSU errors, starting in the first inning when
McCall Lee drove home
Rayne Minor with a sacrifice fly to score an unearned run.
 -
Annemarie Peavy extended the lead in the second inning with an RBI triple that scored
Gracie Trahan, and Peavy came home to score on another error.
 - Peavy again brought a pair of runs home in the third inning as a dropped fly ball scored
Ashley Elsensohn and Lee to make the score 5-0.
 - DSU was able to get on the board in the sixth inning as Jenny Griggers singled home Summer Cryder to make ths score 5-1.
 - The Lady Statesmen had two runners on with just one out, but
Avery Sanders was able to keep MC with the four-run advantage.
 - MC got the run right back in their half of the sixth, taking advantage of another DSU error as Minor scored on a sacrifice bunt from
Jordan LaFosse.
 - The Lady Statesmen added a run with three straight two-out hits in the seventh, but Sanders got a groundout to clinch the GSC-opening victory.
KEY STATS
 - Minor, LaFosse and Lee each had two hits for the Lady Choctaws, while Minor scored a pair of runs.
 - Trahan drew a pair of walks and scored a run in three plate appearances in the contest.
 - Sanders (1-3) allowed just five hits and two earned runs over the complete game effort.
 - She struck out seven Lady Statesmen with four walks.
 - Olivia Burns (1-3) took the loss for DSU, giving up seven hits and two earned runs over 4.0 innings.
