BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Mississippi College's Wesley Gibbs was named Gulf South Conference Male Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
 
Gibbs won the men's 800 meters in his collegiate debut meet at the Birmingham-Southern Panther Indoor Icebreaker on Friday, Dec. 3. He posted a time of 1:52.37, which was also a school record.
 
The Colony, Texas, native also helped the 4x400 relay team capture the crown as the unit clocked a time of 3:21.10.
 
Gibbs becomes the first freshman to garner the conference's weekly indoor honor since Ben Woolhouse accomplished the feat on Feb. 17, 2021.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 16 as it travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the Emory University-hosted Crossplex Showdown.
