CLINTON, Miss---The Mississippi College men's soccer team knocked off Delta State 2-0 on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 4) as MC honored 18 seniors on Senior Day. The Choctaws improve to 10-5-1 overall (7-3-1 GSC) on the year. Delta State falls to 4-9-2 overall (2-8-1 GSC) on the year.
Before the match, MC honored the following 18 seniors:Filippo Bellu,
Cole Calhoon,
Tom Carles,
Alejandro Chavarria,
Aurele Chemin,
Pedro Cortes,
Vance Dewberry,
Paul Downey,
Nick Gibson,
Jesus Hernandez,
Connor Johnson,
Aaron Martin,
Oliver Oyss,
Abel Perez,
Julio Rangel,
Antoine Recizac,
Brady Roberts, and
Guilherme Santos.
Filippo Bellu struck first in the 20th minute as he headed home a cross into the box from
Antoine Recizac to put MC up 1-0. The goal was Bellu's 10th of the year, and the assist was Recizac's 5th of the season.
Recizac then doubled the Choctaws lead when he sped past some Delta State defenders to get on the end of a long ball from
Aurele Chemin and then slotted it home in the 27th minute. The goal was Recizac's 4th of the season and the assist was Chemin's 2nd of the season.
Even with both team's searching for goals from that point forward, that 2-0 score would remain for the remainder of the match.
Overall, MC handily outshot Delta State 28-7 and had a 13-3 edge in shots on goal.
Noah Wagner led the way for MC with 6 shots and 3 shots on goal. Recizac also added 5 shots with 3 on goal.
Alejandro Chavarria also made 3 saves in goal for the Choctaws as he picked up the clean sheet shut out victory.
Next up, the Choctaws will head into the GSC tournament. MC will play in the quarterfinals on Sunday (Nov. 7). It has still yet to be determined what seed in the tournament the Choctaws will be and who they will play in the first round.
