Choctaws Drop Midweek Contest at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Mississippi College fell Tuesday night on the road at Samford by a final score of 83-58 in exhibition play. 

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead in the first five minutes of play, leading the Choctaws 14-3 with 15:22 left in the first half. With 11:21 left in the half, Miles Miller knocked down a three-pointer from outside to cut the Samford lead to 25-11.

The Bulldogs took a 6-0 run in the final minute of the first half to take an 18-point lead into the break, 45-27. Coming out tof the break, a 9-0 run by the Bulldogs gave them their largest lead of the evening, before Miller once again knocked down a clutch jumper to end the Bulldogs run as the Choctaws railed 60-35.

The Choctaws picked up the offensive pace in the final minutes of the contest, but ultimately came up short by a final score of 83-58. 

The Choctaws had three shooters finish with 10+ points on the night and were led by Zach Jones with 15 total points and 11 rebounds, earning his first double double on the season. 

Galen Smith was 6-of-7 shooting from the floor with 12 points on the afternoon and six rebounds. Tradavis Thompson knocked down two three-pointers for 10 points on the night while Judah Jordan added nine points and four rebounds. 

Miles Miller finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and four assists with Lamont Berzat adding a team best five assists. 

The Choctaws remain at 2-3 overall on the season with tonights exhibition matchup. They will look to get back in the win column at home on Thursday versus West Alabama. Tip-off Thursday is set for 7:30 p.m. at the A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Miss.
