CLINTON, Miss. -- The Gulf South Conference announced its annual football awards on Thursday, tabbing Marcus Williams the Freshman of the Year along with Jonathan Jones receiving Second Team All-GSC.

For the season,  Williams rushed the ball 75 times for 500 yards on the ground. He also had a team high nine touchdowns, for an average of 6.7 yards per carry, 92 yards receiving, two touchdown receptions, including a 61-yard touchdown reception. He finished 12th in the GSC in rushing yards per game (50.0 a game), 10th in scoring (7.2 points a game) and 6th in scoring TDs (11 TDs). Williams was 1st in the league in kick off returns for average per return (24.9), and 10th in all-purpose yards (941 all purpose yards)

Jones led Mississippi College with 77.0 tackles on the season, including a team best 4.5 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks on the year in ten games played. He also was 2nd in league in tackles (77 tackles). The Choctaws leading defender was recently tabbed a CSpire Conerly Trophy Finalist, award to the state of Mississippi's top football player. 

The All-GSC First and Second Team, as well as individual awards, were voted on by the league's eight head coaches. Each all-conference team was comprised of 31 players (1-QB, 2-RB, 4-WR, 1-TE, 1-C, 2-T, 2-G, 4-DL, 4-LB, 4-DB, 1-K, 1-P, 1-RS, 2-utility ST).
