CLINTON, Miss.---The Mississippi College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to West Florida on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 31) in a tightly contested and intense match. The Choctaws fall to 9-5-1 overall (6-3-1 GSC) on the year, while West Florida improved to 9-3-1 overall (6-3-1 GSC) with the win.
The Argonauts took the lead early when Kainan Dos Santos put a blistering shot from well outside the box into the net in the 12th minute.
That 1-0 score would hold until the half.
MC would have several great chances in the 2nd half, but had several shots hit the woodwork. Plus West Florida goalkeeper A.J. Evans made several big saves.
The biggest moment came in the final 3 minutes as MC had several shots coming from corners, but all were saved by Evans.
Overall, MC held the advantage in shots 19-6 and had a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.
Guilherme Santos led the way for MC with 4 shots and 3 shots on goal.
Pedro Cortes and
Noah Wagner both also added 3 shots apiece.
Alejandro Chavarria made 2 saves in goal.
Next up, the Choctaws will host Delta State in MC's regular season finale on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 4). The match will be MC's Senior Day celebration and is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
