CLINTON, Miss. --- Junior
Kendall Platt became the Mississippi College all-time record holder in kills as the Choctaws outlasted Shorter University in Gulf South Conference action on Friday, Oct. 29. The five-set victory marked the first since Oct. 2 and snapped a six-match slid.

The win gave MC its first win in program history over the Hawks.

Platt registered a team-best 18 kills in the win, which hands her 934 in her career in Clinton.
Lexi Richards added nine kills followed by
Julia Sumrall with a season-high eight tips on the night.
Lexie Laurendine directed the offensive attack with 30 assists as
Levi Lennard chimed in 12 dimes.

Missy Beber recorded 18 digs to pace the squad followed by Platt with 11 and 10 coming from
Erin Davis.
Sloane FitzHenry defended the frontline with five total blocks. Six different Choctaws registered a block in the contest as the team totaled nine in the match.

In what was a back-and-forth match the entire night, Shorter claimed a four-point lead late in the deciding set, 12-8. MC battled back and cut the deficit to with two points on a Platt kill. The tip sparked a 5-0 run for the Navy and Gold to close out the set and clinch the match. Platt and Richards each notched a pair of kills during the streak to help lock up the contest.

MC opened the match with a 25-12 victory in the first set and held a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth following a 25-21 victory in the third. Shorter, which deadlocked the match at a set each with a 25-16 win in the second, again forced a tie with a narrow 25-22 victory in the fourth. The Hawks rallied from behind late and scored the final three points to claim the set sending the match the distance.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 30 as it hosts Lee University. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear costumes with the winner receiving a $25 Amazon Gift Card.

Notes
- Mississippi College snapped a nine-match, slide in the series with Shorter.
- Platt replaced former Choctaw Rebecca Crane, who held the record since 2006. The Anaheim, Calif., native started the season fourth on the all-time kills list.
- Sumrall's previous season-high came last week as she recorded five kills in the five-set match at Valdosta State.
- The nine team blocks mark are tied for third most this season and rest behind 11 rejections vs. Arkansas-Monticello on Sept. 17 and 10 blocks at Valdosta State.
