Lady Choctaws Beat Union in 2-1 Comeback Victory

The Mississippi College women's soccer team beat Union 2-1 in Overtime on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 24) in comeback fashion. The Lady Choctaws improved to 10-3 overall (8-2 GSC) on the year, while Union fell to 3-11 overall (3-9 GSC) on the year. The win marks MC's 4th straight victory.

MC controlled the first half, outshooting Union 13-3, but couldn't find the back of the back of the net as the squads went into the half tied 0-0.

Union struck first early in the 2nd half as Hannah Patterson scored on a free kick in the 48th minute to put Union up 1-0.

MC continued to control the action, but it wasn't until the final 15 minutes when MC found the equalizer. It was Avery Hederman who drew MC even as she once again scored directly off a corner kick in the 76th minute to make it 1-1. She curled the ball in and it got across the line before the Bulldog keeper could save it. The goal marks Hederman's 4th of the season and her 2nd directly off a corner.

Neither team was able to find a late game-winner and the match went into Overtime tied 1-1.

In Overtime, it was Julio Murdoch who found the Golden Goal game-winner in the 96th as she put home a ball that had been bouncing around inside the box. The goal marks the 1st of the season for Murdoch.

Overall, the Lady Choctaws handily outshot Union 40-5 and had an 18-3 edge in shots on goal. Beatrice Currie led the way with 9 shots. Dani Avelar led the way in shots on goal with 5. Sara Maleski also made 2 saves in goal.

Next up, MC will head back home as they'll take on Spring Hill next Friday afternoon (Oct. 29) and West Florida next Sunday afternoon (Oct. 31). Both matches will be at 1:00 pm at Longabaugh Field.
